Hailed as a “young dramatic soprano to watch,” Melanie Henley Heyn recently became the #1 Most Funded Solo Classical Artist on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter with her 33 divas Project, creating her first orchestral recording with conductor Peter Valentovic and the Bratislava Opera Orchestra. Henley Heyn was also recently honored with the Sorel Fellowship at SongFest in Los Angeles, where she premiered the song cycle Radiant Depth Unfolded by cutting-edge experimentalist composer Anne LeBaron and appeared in recital with Martin Katz.
Recent seasons have included operatic appearances as Madame Lidoine in Poulenc’s Dialogues des carmélites, Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Così fan tutte and in the title role of Suor Angelica by Puccini, where she was praised as an ideal Angelica, “whose radiant soprano shimmered with celestial light.” She has also made a name for herself as an interpreter of orchestral lieder, including Mahler’s Rückert-Lieder, Messiaen’s Poèmes pour Mi, Wagner’s Wesendonck-Lieder and Berg’s Sieben Frühe Lieder.
Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Melanie began singing at an early age. After early studies at the Manhattan School of Music Prep Division, she received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Southern California, before moving to Vienna to study triple Master’s Degrees at the Konservatorium Wien in Opera (Michael Pinkerton), Lied (Carolyn Hague) and Voice (Uta Schwabe).
Melanie Henley Heyn can also be heard on the soundtrack of the hit television series Battlestar Galactica.
