About Mozart’s Abduction from the Seraglio
The nobleman Belmonte, along with the help of his servant Pedrillo embark on an adventure to rescue his beloved Konstanze from the harem of the Pasha Selim. This lighthearted fast-paced tale plays out in hilarious, action-packed circumstances wherein our heroes and heroines must outwit their captors, particularly the fiendish Osmin, overseer of the Pasha’s harem. The Abduction from the Seraglio is a farcical, colorful romance, and was one of Mozart’s first successes as a composer.
All Puget Sound Concert Opera (PSCO) productions are performed concert style. Without the distraction of sets and costumes, Mozart’s music is full of vocal thrills and chills perfectly suited to the action of the story from Konstanze’s unbelievably virtuosic displays of passion, to Belmonte’s soulful pathos to Osmin’s vindictive low notes and let us not forget sassy Blondchen, whose independence and sass are demonstrated by her own brand of vocal fireworks.
