Seattle, WA Jazz Vocalist and multi instrumentalist Alex Baird has been performing, singing and playing since the age of 7. The daughter of a professional piano player and a CPA, her music strikes a sublime balance of creativity, originality, quirkiness, and precision.
A product of the Award Winning Jazz Program at the Seattle Academy of Arts + Sciences, Alex grew up singing and playing saxophone, piano, and guitar. After High School, Alex attended the University of Northern Colorado as a vocal jazz major, and was part of two Downbeat Award-winning vocal jazz groups, NoCoVo and Vocal Lab. Alex has had the opportunity to work with a veritable ‘Who’s Who’ in Vocal Jazz, studying with: Julia Dollison, Kerry Marsh, Sara Gazarek, Brennan Baglio, Lauren Kinhan, Kim Nazarian, Darmon Meader, Peter Eldridge, and Christine Guter. In 2018 as part of the Kobe Jazz Competition, Alex performed at the legendary Jazz Alley in Seattle, and was selected to travel to Japan as a guest artist at the Kobe International Jazz Festival.
Alex’s many gifts as an artist are especially on full display in her incredible use of lyrics. She has a passion for writing and performing vocalese, and continues the legacy of artists like Jon Hendricks, Annie Ross, Eddie Jefferson, Nancy King, Mark Murphy and more! Her performances are rooted in tradition and soulfulness, and her style sits at the forefront of contemporary vocalists who are reinvigorating the jazz idiom.
