Ben Black has been a performer on the Seattle jazz scene since 1985. His career spans new opera-theatre, cabaret, African drumming and dance. He studied at Cornish College for a number of years with pioneer jazz vocalist Jay Clayton. Ben has released two recordings “Remembered Faces/Private Places” and “Mystery and Wonder” on Origin Records. Previous to those he released “In a Mellow Tone” on MNOP Records in 1996. He was featured on the album, “Psyche” by the award-winning Fisher ensemble in 2011 on the 16 Visions label.
During a five-year stay in Europe as a child he developed an interest in and appreciation for the music of different cultures. His parents exposed him to jazz vocalists and instrumentalists of the 20th century.
